The legendary Louis Armstrong, known to many as one of the most popular and innovative jazz musicians in the 1920s, made his career in the bustling city and helped pave the way for later musicians like Earl King, Frank Ocean, and Harry Connick, Jr.
Other talented individuals, such as writer Truman Capote, host Ellen DeGeneres, and chef and television personality Emeril Lagasse, all have roots in this distinctive city. Actress Sandra Bullock, while not a native of New Orleans, currently resides there. Tyler Perry and Richard Simmons also call New Orleans home.
