Roger Smith, CEO of AIL/NILICO Opens Ireland: The New Frontier
Union Heritage Life Assurance Company Limited, the wholly owned subsidiary of American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL), has opened its doors in the Republic of Ireland!
Expansion efforts into Ireland began back in 2009, so we couldn’t be more excited that the plan has finally come together. And why wouldn’t we be? As we do each time we open a new Agency office, we have the opportunity not only to grow our Company, but to help more working families than we could before.
Ireland has a strong system of trade unions, the heart and soul of our niche market, as you know. The country has more than a half million trade unionists. In fact, all employees have a right guaranteed in the Irish constitution to join a union. The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), an organization akin to the AFL-CIO here in the US, is the single umbrella organization for trade unions in Ireland.
The spirit of “Be Union, Buy Union, and Build Union” will continue to guide our operations. Services Industrial Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU), Ireland’s largest trade union, has been chosen to represent Union Heritage Life home office employees.
None of this would be possible without the blood, sweat and tears (I’m kidding about the blood) of our boots-on-the-ground team in Ireland as well as countless members of the Home Office team who worked so hard for so long, through delay after delay to make this expansion possible. But, in the words of Thomas Jefferson, “Delay is preferable to error.” Thanks to everyone for dotting each “i” and crossing every “t.”
Lastly, I hope you will all join me in sending congratulations and well wishes to our SGA on the Emerald Isle, Mr. Allan Jennings. Allan and Emily, we’re excited and happy for you, and wish you great success.
